Drainage Issues?

Drainage issues at your property can be a frustrating and reoccurring problem that can cause a number of problems in your landscape and home. Issues resulting from excessive standing water can range from causing a detrimental effect upon your existing landscape plants to causing large areas of dying lawn, to problems inside your residence such as a basement full of water. Pooling water can also create an eyesore that is unattractive and detracts from your property’s appeal and market value. In addition to that, standing water can also pose a potential health threat because it provides an ideal environment for mosquitoes to dwell and breed in.Landscapes can suffer from drainage problems for a number of reasons, areas of poor drainage near houses or other structures can be especially troubling. The first step to solving a flooding problem is to identify that a problem exists and how to proceed to correctly remedy the issue. Some drainage problems are easy to identify, such as standing water in your yard or areas that stay muddy or boggy many days after a heavy rain. Standing water and areas that stay wet several days after rainfall are a good signifier that you have a drainage problem. Remember water runoff finds the path of least resistance and flows down the steepest part of a slope. If the slope causing the problem spans a large area it may need to be graded to slope away from your drainage issue or foundation. This process often involves skimming off soil and or grading the area till it is sloping away or adding soil if this is simply a low spot. In some cases grading the area may not be a viable solution. In this case another solution is to install a French drain. This drainage feature consists of a gravel-filled trench that catches water with a perforated PVC pipe at the bottom to slow and redistribute the water. A French drain can be placed underneath a roof's drip line, in low areas or perpendicular on a slope, or directly along the foundation to catch runoff from the landscape. Call Lehigh lawns & Landscaping Inc for diagnosis, remedy and beautification. We can not only solve your drainage issue, but make it a process that will result in the enhancement of your property and landscape.

Spring Irrigation Start Up

It's time to schedule your irrigation spring start up to ensure that your system is operating efficiently and effectively.

irrigation_startupOur technicians will run through every zone, head by head and make repairs or adjustments to optimize your watering system. A professionally installed and maintained irrigation system will save you water and money and protect your lawn and landscape investments for the long term. With unpredictable Hudson Valley summers, usually comes heat and dry conditions that can turn your green perky lawn to mere clumps of brown straw.… Oh, the joys of drought seasons in our area. Anyhow, spring is the time of year that we spend preparing our customers for the coming summer months. One of the most important services for our customers is getting their irrigation systems started as the weather betters

Spring irrigation start up begins with a few simple steps to make things go smoothly. The winter months can take their toll on irrigation heads, valves and underground water lines, and through these months the pressures in the pipelines can change. So we always proceed cautiously!

Our technicians will start with a general inspection of your irrigation system. We will begin opening your irrigation by letting water fill only the mainline of your system at a reduced pressure rate. (The mainline runs between the irrigation source and the zones beyond it.) We will be careful to let the system fill slowly! After the mainline is filled, we’ll continue the same process with each zone following the mainline. When the water runs clear and free of air bubbles; the zone has been filled successfully. We will continue to run each zone for about 2 minutes, enabling any air to escape that has been trapped in the process. We will check for damaged or broken heads, correct spray patterns and ensure that your system is running at maximum efficiency. We will finish our visit by checking your preprogrammed water settings. Once those have been confirmed, your irrigation service is complete!

So call Lehigh Lawns & Landscaping at 845-463-4400 today for an appointment to open your irrigation system! Let us help to make sure your lawn stays green all season long!

Belgium block was once widely used to pave streets and can still be found in some cities hundreds of years after installation, proving its superb durability.

Let the stone masons here at Lehigh Lawns & Landscaping Inc. introduce an old world charm to your property with a boarder edging of Belgium block to your driveway.

This will not only enhance the appearance of your entry, but provide an imperishable constraint that will help your driveway resist cracking and crumbling at its edge.

A Belgium border will also aid in the visibility of the driveway edge when entering and exiting your driveway and may also alleviate some drainage issues.

Finish the project right with a long lasting Belgium Block driveway apron. This will add beauty and durability to the base of your driveway, the area most likely to be affected by snow, ice and salt deposited by municipal plows during the winter months.
